“Comfortable room, excellent dinner and service, highly recommended – a must for anyone wishing to sleep over near Colesberg. Thank you to the owners and the team at Kuilfontein for a warm welcome and a superb break in my journey from Pretoria to Cape Town.”

“Been coming here for the past 3 years on my way down to Cape Town or joburg. It is like a mini vacation and a complete switch off from a crazy life in comfortable fashion with delicious decedent food and beautiful hospitality. Always crossing paths with lovey people here. A home away from home.”

This is one of the most beautiful bed & breakfasts I have stayed in and I can 100% recommend it to EVERYBODY who is looking to stop over in Colesburg. It was an old thoroughbred stud farm – standing stallions such as Fearless Lad – who has produced top racehorses & is also grandsire of many top race horses. The property is filled with PRECIOUS animals – so we were in our element. Would have loved to stay longer. Dinner was AMAZING!!! Top 5 star meal. Our room so tastefully decorated. A huge thank you to all the team at Kuilfontein for having us to stay – what a wonderful break in our journey!!”

“Although we have never been to Kuilfontein we felt like we were amongst old friends. The owners and staff all made such an effort to make us feel welcome and at ease. We had time for a short walk around the grounds to experience the most incredible sunset! We then met up in the well stocked pub where we joined the owners and other guests for a pre-dinner drink. In no time at all we were all laughing and sharing travel stories.
The food was superb. We had roast lamb for dinner with an aubergine and tomato starter followed by a filo fruit and custard desert. Breakfast was a real treat. Fresh oats, fruits, muffins and home made breads followed by eggs and bacon. Tea was served in old fashioned silver and homemade jams and preserves against the backdrop of a beautiful old Aga stove completed the Karoo farm feeling.
We stayed in the stables which were quaint, spotless and very comfortable. The old newspaper clips and photos on the walls, the homely lounge with interesting stacks of books and the friendly dogs, cat and rescued baby meerkat all gave Kuilfontein the feel of visiting in old friends’ home rather than overnight accommodation.
I highly recommend a stop over when you find yourself near Colesburg.”

“The best half way stop travelling to and from Jo’burg. Penny and Patricia are wonderful, gracious hosts and cannot do enough for you. The rooms are 5* and the dinner and breakfast compares favourably to any 5* hotel. Highly recommended!”

“We stayed in the Paddocks as we were traveling with our dog. The accommodation is very comfortable and warm…which was great considering how cold it was outside! We ordered a lamb casserole for supper, which was absolutely delicious and served with rice and a nice fresh salad. Kuilfontein is really lovely and the staff incredibly welcoming and friendly.”

“Baie dankie aan Penny en haar personeel. Spesiale vermelding aan Evelyn wat ons mooi gemaklik gemaak het, en net op die regte tyd liggies gebring het omdat beurtkrag ons gevang het. Pragtige huislike eenhede, silwerskoon, keurig gemeubileer en ten volle toegeruste kombuis. Ek het The Paddocks se spierwit linne baie waardeer. Cheers- sien julle een van die-dae weer vir ‘n braai op julle stoep en ver uitsig.”

“We enjoyed our stay at the Paddocks, it’s so quiet. The people are friendly and the service good. The units are very comfortable, clean and neat. The food is delicious. Evelyn is very friendly and helpful. It is an added bonus to wake up early in the morning with the singing of a variety of birds and experience the beautiful sunrise.”

“The units are very well-equipped and decorated beautifully. Bedroom is very comfortable. The home-made food that you can order in advance is the perfect thing after a long day of travelling. We were able to bring our dog and appreciated it a lot. Wish we could’ve stayed longer.”

“A hidden gem! Approx 12km past Colesberg on the N1, is a white pillared gate. Just that. No arrows and billboards, just two white pillars guarding the entrance to this haven like silent sentries. Then follows a stretch of farmroad, approx 2km, easily navigated by car. Beautifully restored stables reminiscent of the french countryside, line a gravelled courtyard with tables and chairs for al fresco dining which refreshingly attentive staff serve. A wonderful sense of peace and tranquillity pervade. On the other side of the homestead lies the paddocks. They’re self-catering and pet-friendly units, and comprise of a bedroom/s with en-suite bathroom and open-plan lounge/diner/kitchen area. These units all line a wonderful green lawn for pets to romp in (we travelled with a pet rabbit) Delicious pre-ordered meals or braai- packs are delivered to your fridge.”

“Fantastiese oornagplek! Netjies, skoon, rustig en gerieflik langs die N1 halfpad tussen Johannesburg en Kaapstad. Pragtige plaas in die hart van die Karoo. Baie vriendelike personeel het ons verwelkom. Goeie diens. Baie netjiese, goed toegeruste selfsorg-eenheid. Sal beslis weer daar oorslaap en dit aanbeveel by ander reisigers.”

“We stayed at The Paddocks the 26th of December 2012. We really enjoyed staying there. The cottage at The Paddocks, the food, location, service, view, everything was 5 star quality. Best stopover we ever had on our routes to Cape Town. Thank you.”

“What a wonderful surprise to find a beautifully appointed place in the middle of the Karoo. It is stylish, extremely comfortable with everything we needed for our two day break and the linen is superb! Lexi and her husband Grant are well travelled and informative and we enjoyed a beautiful karoo sunset with good SA wine while waiting for the barbeque. We will definitely come back!”
